Suica or Pasmo Card in JAPAN

What is  a SUICA or PASMO card ?

Suica (スイカ Suika?) is a rechargeable contactless smart card used as a fare card on train lines in Japan. Launched in November 2001, the card is usable currently in the Kantō region, at JR East stations near Sendai and Niigata.

Suica is the rechargeable prepaid IC card of JR East, valid on virtually all trains, subways and buses in the Greater Tokyo region. In addition, Suica can be used on JR trains in the Sendai, Niigata, Sapporo, Osaka, Okayama, Hiroshima, Nagoya and Shizuoka regions and on trains, subways and selected buses in and around Fukuoka.

PASMO is the rechargeable IC card of Tokyo's railway and subway companies other than JR, but it is also valid on JR trains. PASMO's predecessor, the non-rechargeable Passnet, was retired in March 2008.
